Creating a Culture of Inclusive Leadership Through Influence and Adaptability

There is a strong correlation between organizations with a high degree of emphasis on developing inclusive leaders and improvements in key business metrics such as customer satisfaction, employee engagement, talent retention overall and retention of diverse talent, new Brandon Hall Group research shows.

Most employers (76%) are receptive to improving inclusion and inclusive leadership in their organizations, according to Inclusive Leadership: 5 Strategies for Success, conducted by Brandon Hall Group and Orange Grove Consulting. But less than half of organizations are having success in effectively training leaders to demonstrate inclusive leadership.

Driving greater inclusion and helping leaders adapt to a more inclusive leadership style amounts to culture change, which needs to occur at all levels of an organization to be successful. The study showed that only about one-third of employers are training at all levels – from the C-suite to individual contributors. No more than 41% are training on inclusive leadership at any one employee level.

The business benefits of having women of all ethnicities and races in positions of influence and leadership are well-documented. Another Brandon Hall Group Study, What’s Changing for Women in the Workplace, examined how high-performing organizations adjust their development strategies for women across demographic groups and geographies. The study shows how the disruption of the pandemic impacted women and organizations’ plans as they transition to the evolving “new normal.”

At Inkling’s Illuminate 2021 virtual conference, I had the honor of facilitating a panel discussion related to these two studies. Check out the recording of this exciting Session: Creating a Culture of Inclusive Leadership Through Influence and Adaptability. You’ll hear great insights and practical strategies and success stories from this great panel of leaders:
