Chang is responsible for driving initiatives in learning and assessment to enhance Regis Company’s neuroscience-based business solutions. In our discussion, she shares methods that drive deeper engagement for people to allow them to learn faster through self-generated techniques.

One of the fascinating areas that we talk about is the work of Nobel Prize winner Daniel Kahneman. Kahneman authored the book, Thinking Fast and Slow, where he describes the brain as having two systems that function differently – System 1 (fast) and System 2 (slow). System 1 is when your brain is on autopilot and responds quickly to things that are familiar and habit-driven – like getting dressed. System 1 can be helpful but also problematic in the workplace. If new behaviors and thinking are necessary, this will require a change in the mental model of the brain. This takes effort and time, but some techniques can help you get there faster. When new thinking is required, your brain operates in System 2 and works harder to complete an activity such as public speaking for the first time or to manage a new team, etc. Chang offered insights about the importance of understanding how each system in your brain operates to engage deeper thinking for more positive results. You can download the whitepaper from The Regis Company, Using the Debrief to Engage System 2.

We also discussed how The Regis Company has used neuroscience research to develop research-based learning simulations that offer safe environments that engage learners to learn faster and drive better results. To listen to our interview, you can download the podcast anytime at the HCMx Radio site.
