The Importance of Artificial Intelligence in Learning Technology

The world runs on data. Technology continues to get smarter and data is what drives it. Artificial intelligence continues to play a larger role in all kinds of technology platforms, but many companies are just beginning to understand that role. It is not a separate piece of technology you buy but rather built into other software to provide unique functionality.

A recent Brandon Hall Group study found that organizations are only moderately familiar with AI as it relates to human capital management technology. Additionally, there is less familiarity with how AI works within learning technologies than with other HCM tools. As a result, companies are less likely to leverage learning technologies that use AI.

Despite a lack of familiarity, 60% of companies believe that AI is either highly important or critical to properly leveraging learning technologies. Within the arena of learning technology, AI is being used to automate and personalize the learning experience, and more.

Brandon Hall Group Smartchoice® Platinum Preferred Provider ELB Learning has a wide portfolio of learning tools and technologies that leverage AI, but there is one in particular that uses it in a way that goes beyond automation and recommendations. Relatively new to the ELB Learning group of solutions is Rehearsal, a video-based practice tool. Brandon Hall Group research has found that learning experiences that provide opportunities to practice skills are far more impactful and effective than those that do not.

Rehearsal allows learners to practice skills such as presentations, customer conversations and leadership conversations. Without AI, this is still a beneficial exercise. But by powering Rehearsal with artificial intelligence, ELB Learning makes this kind of practice and the coaching that goes with it incredibly scalable. The AI can track the practice session and provide immediate feedback to the learner without burdening a coach. Then, the AI can highlight opportunities for meaningful coaching moments. This means coaches can have deeper interactions with more learners, rather than having to engage one-on-one with every person each time they rehearse. The AI also guides the learners to resources that may help improve their performance

Practice makes perfect and AI makes practice practical. Any organization that is trying to build skills that require conversations, role-play, or other types of one-on-one interactions should look into how an AI-powered tool can scale this kind of learning.
