High-Performance Leadership Development: Framing a Systematic Approach, details a research-based framework to install effective, high-performance leadership practices and leverage LD as a competitive differentiator.
Delray Beach, FL – Nov. 1, 2013 – Brandon Hall Group today released a 57-page white paper by Talent Management Practice Leader Laci Loew that offers a framework for how organizations can take an integrated approach to Leadership Development.
The paper, High-Performance Leadership Development: Framing a Systematic Approach, is based in part on a recent Brandon Hall Group research report, Leadership: The State of Development Programs 2013. That report shows that Leadership Development programs are largely failing to develop the leaders needed to drive strong business results in organizations.
Loew introduces a framework inclusive of steps that high-performing organizations take to effectively implement an integrated approach to Leadership Development that builds strong organizational capability.
The framework serves as strategic guidance for those attempting to recover from Leadership Development failures, to install effective, high-performance leadership practices, and to leverage LD as a competitive differentiator. The framework is comprised of eight highly researched components on which Leadership Development at HPOs rests: governance, external influencers, strategic alignment, organizational climate, technology, leadership strategy and the integrated LD plan, measurement and success levers.
Armed with an understanding of what Leadership Development is, its challenges and benefits, and a process-based framework for implementing it, this research offers an analytics-based approach toward reaching the elusive goal of High-Performance Leadership Development — an approach that will earn more organizations a differentiated position in the marketplace.
Brandon Hall Group’s LD survey, released earlier this month, shows that only 25% of organizations believe their critical Leadership Development programs are very effective, and more than half do not have a formal Leadership Development strategy to drive their programs.
From the survey research and interviews with global learning and talent management leaders, it is clear that ensuring a solid pipeline of suitable leaders has proven to be a daunting task for many organizations of all sizes and in all industries.
Following those findings, Loew’s further research and framework aims to help organizations create a path out of the LD wilderness.
“Creating a high-performance workplace is the single most critical path to positively impact employees, workgroups, organizations, customers and ultimately global society at large. Building a healthy workplace is like living a healthy lifestyle. We often know what the critical ingredients are, but don’t necessarily mix them appropriately or commit to them in a sustainable way or on a regular basis. The Brandon Hall Group High-Performance Integrated Leadership Development Framework suggests a simple mix of eight key ingredients deployed in three repeatable steps. The guidance it offers will develop leaders who have the know-how to build organizational capability that accelerates efficient, effective, and most importantly, sustainable business results,” said Laci Loew, Principal Analyst and Talent Management Practice Leader, Brandon Hall Group.
“This framework is a great tool – just one of many we are creating in our expanding Talent Management Practice,” said Brandon Hall Group CEO Mike Cooke. “We bring fresh ideas and a new perspective to Talent Management; we truly integrate Learning and Development and Talent Management.”
